De Profundis - Film Festival

The theme of this season’s festival is European Cinema, which the filmmaker may interpret in a number of ways; films which explore cultural/political, identities of a country, documentaries, and film makers from European countries.
We are going to be showing short narrative based independent films followed by a European related feature release, (titles yet to be disclosed). There will be refreshments and snacks available. Please look out for the up and coming programmes.

This seasons dates are:

Monday 16th of November

This Monday will be the introduction to the season with a selection of short independent film followed by a main feature release film.


Monday 23rd of November,

Includes a screening of 'Washdays'. A short film that won this years top prize at the Soho Rushes Short Film Festival. A special guest talk/Q&A session by Graham Lester George, the Writer, will follow the screening. Please visit here for more information on Graham:

Monday 30th of November,
Includes 'Sucker', (2007) 12 mins' a short film that has had much success at various international Festivals. Special guest Dir/Prod Keir Black talks of his film about a man with the most boring job in the world who is desperate to break the monotony... but excitement comes in a form you may not expect. He is sure to provide some interesting answers to any questions.

Monday 7th of December,
Includes a short film from an unusual perspective called 'Worman'. (There will possibly be a talk by people involved in the production, including 'Worman' himself, though this has yet to be confirmed... due to British rail constraints).

The idea of De Profundis is to provide an entertaining platform for film enthusiasts & those who may also wish to make the most of its relaxed 'Forum' based environment. Who knows where this slightly raw rarity may lead to, possible future collaborations hopefully and work that may well venture toward the profound!

Please don't hesitate in bringing any of your favourite DVD’s along that you may wish to lend to others. You might just end up borrowing a film from them that could change your life!

Surface Gallery are now seeking submissions from independent filmmakers to be screened at De Profundis film festival November 2009.

The theme of this season’s festival is European Cinema, which the filmmaker may interpret in a number of ways; films which explore cultural/political, identities of a country, documentaries, film makers from European countries, films made in a particular country etc.

We are looking for narrative based cinema in the format of short film that last between 5 and 30 minutes.

Deadline for applications is ongoing as all submissions could be allocated for future film festivals, though as this is our first for some time, we need as many as possible by November 20th 2009.
