SUMMARY:Erase & Rewind
DESCRIPTION:Erase & Rewind                      Â
  Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â The Refectory 10th – 21st  July\nHenry T
ietzsch-Tyler,  Dale Holmes,  Derek Sprawson,  Finbar Prior\nOpenin
 g View :  Saturday  9th July  6-8pm\nClosing  View  : Thursday 21
st July 6-8pm\n \nErase & Rewind will be a two week event that takes
a dynamic approach to the exhibition space, using The Refectory as an
interactive environment; reconfiguring, altering and evolving througho
ut the duration of the show. As works shift, relationships change and
new dialogues will emerge. The Refectory becomes an open venue to aid
the exchange of ideas as the rigid formula of exhibiting is broken dow
n, taking the opening and closing evenings as points for discussion, a
nd welcoming the viewers into the space at times of creation and flux.
Each of the four exhibiting artists embrace change and renewal in dif
 ferent ways:\n \nHenry Tietzsch-Tyler’s anglo-german heritage is a
backdrop to his paintings, the process of ‘erasing’ the very paint
ing as it is being made is almost a compulsive act, painting out the i
nherited memory of his mother’s wartime trauma. Tietzsch-Tyler’s a
ssemblage of paintings is a storage solution that  must have taken ye
ars to evolve to its present form. This work will be exhibited for the
first time and will unfold to reveal its buried secrets over the cour
se of the exhibition.\n \nDale Holmes makes work according to his cur
rent concerns, consciously striving away from the creation of a signat
ure style. The work in this exhibition was previously shown in Bloc ga
llery in Sheffield, but have since been re-painted, to disallow a re-v
isiting of the same ideas. Holmes now has surrendered the control of h
ow these paintings are arranged and rearranged for this exhibition, pa
inting-constructions that are built up and dismantled and rebuilt and
dismantled..\n \nDerek Sprawson will be returning to The Refectory, p
art of the Eagle Works studios that he originally founded with his lat
est work. The work will be made from component parts which will contin
ue finding their places as the exhibition develops, revealing new subt
leties within the architecture of the space.\n \nFinbar Prior’s wor
ks take on personas which through the duration of the show will become
part of their own soap opera, drawing you to return for each new inst
 alment of scandal and drama.\n \nOpen 12- 5 Tuesday to Saturday 10th-
21st July\nThe Refectory, Hooton Street off Carlton Road, Nottingham
NG3 2NJ\nErase & Rewind is part of NotLost Festival, a three week arts
