I am a Nottingham based artist,
My work focuses on objects from the everyday. By creating broken down, simplified versions, I ask the viewer to reassess how they look at or understand what they see. I play upon perceptions of reality, and how we do not question the credibility of what we are looking at. I am not trying to replicate an object; I am fabricating my own understanding of an object, and taking only the most distinguishing characteristics from their reality-based counterparts. Leaving out certain amounts of detail transforms the object into a blank, flawless surface that perhaps we as the viewer attach a degree of plausibility or reference of reality to. The work pays attention specifically to memory, and how I remember an object, or how the viewer thinks an object looks, rather than how it actually looks. Also, through creating clean blank surfaces from paper, the physiological properties of the works become ambiguous, their weight and material values become less clear, only their physical presence is noted.
