Based in Colchester, firstsite is a leading visual arts organisation for the East of England, building a reputation over the last 15 years for presenting new work to new audiences through an integrated programme of learning, artistic and artists’ support. Since 1999 it has been developing plans and designs for a purpose-built space designed by architect Rafael Viñoly. The new building opened to the public on 25 September 2011 and its programme to date has attracted over 100,000 visitors and received wide critical acclaim.
We are seeking to recruit an Assistant Curator to support delivery of the artistic programme.
Working closely with the Senior Curator and Technical Manager, the Assistant Curator plays an important role in coordinating the successful implementation of firstsite’s programme of exhibitions, publications, events and other artistic projects. The post holder will be a core member of the Programmes team, working with artists, lenders, writers, designers and other partners as well as the other departments of the organisation to ensure good communication. Assisting in all aspects of the Senior Curator’s work on exhibitions; from research and development to delivery and evaluation the post holder will have an opportunity to lead on projects and contribute ideas to programming working on a range of solo and group exhibitions of both historical and contemporary art.
