Friday 13 July 2012, Southbank Centre
An international line-up of promoters, programmers, and producers, curators, funders, patrons, artists and composers join together for a day of talks and discussions to consider models for commissioning,
including finance, risk, rights, fan funding, collecting sound and performance works in the visual arts, joint ventures, digital platforms, and commissioning as a creative process.
Speakers include Susannah Simons (BBC / The Space), Matthew Herbert (Musician, DJ, composer, producer, label owner), Maija Handover (Sound UK), Vernon Ellis (Patron, Chair of ENO), Theresa Lloyd (specialist in cultural patronage), Susanna Eastburn (ACE), Paul Hobson (Contemporary Art Society), Vincent Honore (David Roberts Art Foundation), Ed Harsh (New Music USA), Henrietta Norton (wedidthis.co.uk), Vanessa Reed (PRSF), Gwendolyn Tietze (BCMG), Gillian Moore (Southbank Centre), Eric de Visscher (Cite de la Musique, Paris), Jan Bang (Punkt, Norway), Barry Esson (Arika), and Graham McKenzie (hcmf).
How is digital culture and digital technology changing the
commissioning process? Who supports commissioning, and what experience and relationship are they looking for? How can the process of commissioning be a creative act in itself?
