Gallery Enablers x 3, Birmingham Museums Trust

Principal function
To help visitors of all ages access and enjoy science and technology through exhibit/object interpretation and the delivery of a dynamic and exciting programme of activities for a family audience. To ensure that visitors experience the highest level of customer service and that health and safety in the galleries is upheld.

Specific duties and responsibilities
To welcome people to Thinktank (incl theScienceGarden) and enable them to use exhibits effectively through demonstration and discussion
To explain scientific and historic ideas clearly and accurately, in such a way that is appropriate for the age and understanding of the visitors they are addressing
Ensure the safety of the galleries and report problems as they arise
Monitor the exhibits and the rest of the environment reporting any breakages and damages
Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
Brief schools and other groups as they arrive at the museum
Ensure that the galleries are presented for public use, clean exhibits as directed, and replenish any gallery consumables when necessary
Learn background information on interactive exhibits and collections in order to interpret them for the public
Assist schools and family learners with on-gallery activities and direct them to workshops, shows and events
Learn and deliver storytelling activities for young children and handling collections for family visitors.
Assist with box office duties from time to time, learning the ticketing and retail systems
To contribute towards new programme developments, working with other members of the Exhibitions and Learning team as necessary
To contribute towards the ongoing care of the historical collections within the museum
