Gesture Artist in Residence, Fermynwoods Contemporary Art

Gesture is an exhibition and series of performances that will take place in Corby, Northamptonshire, from September 2012. Comprising work including live art, video and performance – Gesture will explore ways in which relationships and social interaction can be signified, controlled and communicated through the conduit of the hand; exploring intentional and subconscious gestures and how these relate to written, oral, aural, sign and visual languages.

An artist in residence is sought for a period of three months on a part-time, two-days per week basis. The artist will work with the local community to explore ideas around gesture within the context of their own practice for a period from September to December 2012.

Gesture will take place in The Cube, Corby’s new multi-purpose venue; combining a Theatre, Library, Council Offices, Performance Spaces, the Registry Office and other public areas such as the One Stop Shop.

The successful artist is expected to work with the visitors to the Cube on initiatives that might be event-based, temporary, or result in realised physical work. Fermynwoods Contemporary Art will assist in making links and facilitating relationships with local groups and will support the artist to connect with fabricators and production facilities in the region wherever possible.

Fee - £3,000 (include all travelling expenses and subsistence)
