Stream - Commission Opportunity, Greenwich, London

Stream is a creative production agency based in the London Borough of Greenwich, where our programmes bring together innovative art practice and local people. We are looking for an artist to undertake a new commission as part of our ‘Peninsula’ programme of creative projects. The project will adopt an innovative approach to investigating notions of society, community and ‘the social’ in response to the unique and changing environment of the Greenwich Peninsula, where the aims of current regeneration schemes are not only towards physical but also social renewal. We are particularly interested in performative practices which experiment with different modalities for bringing people together, and are keen that the commissioned artist explores the potential of the varied physical environment of the Peninsula as a multifaceted site for the staging of events, gatherings and interventions. We are interested in a project that responds to the complexity of the area, and which seeks to engage and bring together residents of different generations and diverse cultural backgrounds. The creative documentation of any temporary and/or performative elements should be included in the overall conceptualisation and planning of the project, as such documentation will be presented to wider audiences to raise the profile of the project.

We are looking for an artist working in site specific collaborative practice, who is interested in exploring the relationship between people and place and adopts an oblique approach to the notion of community. Meaningful participation by a range of community members is central to the Commission’s aims, as is the opportunity for innovative approaches to this challenge, and we are seeking an artist experienced in engaging with members of the public and the complexities that this involves.

The Commission has a budget of £10,000 and is scheduled to take place between November 2009 and July 2010.
