Early career practitioners in Fine Art are invited to apply for the first annual Warwick Stafford Research Fellowship at Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne.

The Fellowship prize money will be in the form of a one-year bursary of £20,000, paid monthly. In addition to the bursary Northumbria will provide the successful Fellow with:

• a studio space in Northumbria’s Institute for Contemporary Art at Baltic 39
• technical support
• access to exhibition space
• regular tutorials and training sessions
• access to leading academics and internationally renowned artists

The Fellow will be required to fund their own materials and travel costs but will be assisted by the School of Arts and Social Sciences to apply for additional external funding.

The Fellowship will offer an early career artist a structured opportunity to advance their practice and research and engage with a stimulating community of professional artists, students, Fine Art Researchers and the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art partners. Support and development will be designed to meet the needs of the individual Fellow. The artist will develop a body of new work and advance their practice led research. New work will be accessible during public events at the BxNU Institute and will form a core part of the exhibition programme in Gallery North, the School of Arts and Social Sciences prestigious venue for contemporary art.
The Fellowship will culminate in a Solo Exhibition, Symposium and publication

How to apply
Entry is by online application form. During selection the panel will look to identify applicants whose practice and research will benefit most from the opportunities offered.
Artists are required to submit:
• A CV and contact details of one referee
• An Artist’s Statement (750 word max.) outlining your reasons for wishing to become a Fellow and how the Fellowship would benefit your current practice.
• Up to Eight images of current work (Maximum total size 6MB)
As a submission of practice led research the selection panel will be looking for excellence in:
• Your knowledge and critical understanding of innovative concepts and approaches to Fine Art Practice
• Previous projects/exhibitions which engaged with the public
• Articulation of the creative, conceptual and innovative ways of developing exciting and thought-provoking practice and research
