Simon Schofield creates digital printed images of enormous vitality and complexity, each composed from immense constellations of detailed sub-elements. His images achieve a meditative quality, and often have an air of the romantic sublime. Schofield takes a very systematic and strategic approach to each new series of images including the development of new software and processes. For him, the creation of new tools and the artworks achieved through them is all part of an inseparable process. The tension between the technological process and the romance of the “landscapes” produced is another vital element.
In this talk Schofield will present an overview of his work, including a very large piece, The Kipple Pond, currently on show in Sheffield. He will conclude with some thoughts on the lure of generative approaches to making artworks.
Simon Schofield is a Lecturer in Computing at NTU and a NESTA Fellow. He shows his work nationally and internationally.
